Organizational Project Management Readiness (OPMR) Assessments

Overview

As many enterprise organizations execute millions and often hundred of millions or billions or dollars worth of projects, they are aware that project performance can be a key differentiating factor in achieving corporate goals. They often have spent a substantial amount of money to buy and implement ERP and project management software, sent some people to project management training, keep buying complementary products, often with intangible results. Now they wonder what else they can do.

This is where OPMR comes in. We find that often:

  • Project controls and scheduling functions are handled outside ERP.
  • Project data is entered multiple times, into multiple systems.
  • End-users and contractors are hesitant or resistant to use ERP tools for project management.
  • ERP is used mainly as the "financial system," while "real project management" is done in other systems, like Primavera, MS Project, Excel, or a number of other tools.
  • State-of-the-art project management functionality is not implemented.
  • Project management functionality is not much in line with the PMBOK and advanced project management methodologies.

How can one know where an organization stands, unless this is analyzed in detail? This is what our Organizational Project Management Readiness (OPMR) Assessments are about.

The Process

Based on the framework outlined above, we gather empirical input from the analyzed organizations by having them answer a series of specific questions about the 7 dimensions of Organizational Project Management Readiness.

This input will be run through our proprietary assessment and diagnostics tool. It analyzes the input and prioritizes areas that require attention. Other results contains:

  • Analytical information;
  • Prioritization of next steps based on the feedback from the client
  • A write-up exploring critical issues and outlining
  • A strategy plan outlining the highest impact steps to improve OPMR and
  • Action items that management should focus its attention at.

The execution of that plan will help the organization reach a higher level of project management maturity.
